As a lifelong student always looking to try new things, Lucinda started watercolor painting at the beginning of 2020, having never picked up a paint brush before. Through steady practice and determination, the fluidity and unpredictable nature of watercolor had her hooked and trying to paint everything she could think of. Many of her original paintings today are based on photos from her travels around New England, places special to her, or her family.
Lucinda has a bachelor of Arts from Penn State and a MBA from the University of Massachusetts - Lowell. She is an active member of the Newburyport Art Association, Greater Haverhill Art Association, Newton Watercolor Society, and volunteers with the New England Watercolor Society.
Artist Statement
I’m drawn to watercolor because of the fluidity and unpredictable nature of the medium, even though control is something that I crave in life – it’s a peculiar juxtaposition, but I’ve learned patience and adaptability to the shifting situation of paint and water on the paper in my practice. To me, watercolor is the ultimate challenge in taking something in front of me and rendering it in a simple way that changes the perception or feeling of an ordinary object or scene. I push myself to constantly improve my skill and capabilities, each new work serving to try and prove to myself that I’m capable of new challenges and stretching my limits.
